Sangram Vajre, chief evangelist and co-founder of Terminus, explains how leaders can use the Impact Graph to get a better understanding of their organizational culture.

“The Impact Graph is really the cornerstone for if you want to figure out if things are going right in your organization as a leader,” shares Sangram. “What you're going to find is when you look at things that are in what quadrant, you're going to figure out how your organization thinks and acts.”

Watch the video to learn how to plot your organization on the Impact Graph.

The Impact Graph is really the cornerstone for if you want to figure out if things are going right in your organization as a leader. So the Impact Graph is quite simple. It has two axes. One axis is from 1X to 10X, which means what are the things that matter to you and your organization that are going to have 1X impact to 10X impact. And the other one, the Y-axis, is really about things that you do out of love versus status quo. And you start plotting them around these axes where 1X to 10X, love to status quo.

And what you're going to find is when you look at things that are in what quadrant, you're going to figure out how your organization thinks and acts. Chances are that you're not going to find as many things as possible in the 10X and love quadrant. And that's a red flag for you because that means people are afraid to take risk. And if you're afraid to take risk, you're creating a culture where everybody agrees because then nobody wants to get fired.

As opposed to if you have a culture where a lot of the initiatives are above the 1X to 10X and closing toward more of the love and the 10X impact, you're going to find that your organization is thriving. People are pushing themselves. You're making different decisions than you would have made if everything was going smoothly. Things are failing in some areas, and that's OK because you are pushing yourself harder. Those are the things that define leadership and a culture beyond the boundaries which you could imagine.
