Michael Daly, president and inaugural board chairman of The Orange Duffel Bag Initiative, explains that we all have our faults and issues—and sometimes they are exactly the passion that drives us to achieve our vision.

“I am very passionate, and that can sometimes be exhausting,” Michael says with a laugh. “I think it's important to know that if you are that leader and you are that passionate, that you acknowledge it and say what others are wanting to say.”

In Michael’s experience, once you acknowledge your faults you can use them to propel you forward. “The more you can bring them to the table, not only just individually but also whatever the group issues might be, that's what can move the work forward.”

Watch the video to learn more from Michael about the benefits of admitting faults.

What I hear a lot is that I'm a very passionate person, and I know that can be exhausting. I think it's important to know that if you are that leader and you are that passionate, that you acknowledge it and say what others are wanting to say.

So, I was in a meeting recently and it was several of our partners and I love working with a team of talented people, that have the shared mission of wanting to do this work. I just said, you know, "Am I exhausting?" and they all started laughing, because I knew that they must have been thinking that because I can be very passionate.

Once that was communicated, it was beautiful because it's endearing, but it's also acknowledging that all of us have our issues and our faults. The more you can bring them to the table, not only just individually but also whatever the issues might be, that's what moves the work forward, and that's what moves the momentum, and allows you to achieve the vision that you have.
