Shira Miller, chief communications officer at National DCP, explains the importance of aha moments and how leaders should make the most of them when they happen.
“When you have an aha moment, it's important to acknowledge it,” says Shira. “Write it down, even if it's a scrap of paper, something that you're writing into your cell phone, just make sure that you stop and acknowledge it so that you can breathe life into it later.”

When you have an aha moment, it's important to acknowledge it. Write it down, even if it's a scrap of paper, something that you're writing into your cell phone, just make sure that you stop and acknowledge it so that you can breathe life into it later. And then, do. So when it is time, and you've got time to let it grow and flourish, paint a vivid picture. If you write in a journal or you just want to open up a computer file, type as fast as you can, stream of consciousness. See what's possible. You could create visual images to reinforce it.
I had a client who is an actress and she was interested in getting bigger parts, landing national TV shows, things such as that. And so to her, I was like, "OK. What symbolizes this kind of success?" Life is short and so when you have these aha moments, it's important to acknowledge it because it's giving yourself a gift. It's what's possible, you at your best. You are smart and you are creative and when you have these ideas and these realizations, honor them because they're going to allow you to pave an even better, happier future for yourself.
