“I define balance as those things that bring you joy,” says Carla. “Those passions are sometimes the things that actually push you through your ‘day job.’ And so I think that if you really want to have balance, you have to be intentional about making sure that you put some of those things in your calendar every day.”

- Making time for our passions outside of work helps to keep us centered.
For me, I may sing on my way into the office because I drive in and if I leave, you know, at 7 o’clock it could be a two-hour drive versus a 25-hour drive and I'm singing for two hours. If I have a major concert that's coming up, I'm practicing every chance I get. I'm on a four-hour flight, I'm listening to the music.
But all of those things are filling me up so that by the time I get to whatever I am going to, that might be more work-related, finance-related, client-related. I'm already pumped up because of having had that time to focus just on my passion. So that's how you need to think about it and be intentional about putting it in your day every day.
