How to Bring Out the Best in Difficult Employees

“For those that are more difficult to manage, I usually spend more time listening,” says Kevin. “I often find myself talking with them on the way to and from our project sites, getting to know them better and seeing what areas in their lives are sources of comfort for them.”

Doesn't always work that way. There are a couple examples where we need to move quickly and bring those people that were readily available. For those that are more difficult to manage, I usually spend more time listening. I often find myself talking with them on the way to and from our project sites, getting to know them better, seeing what areas in their lives, are sources of comfort for them. Because when we're out in the remote part of, say, Honduras, sometimes it's nice to bring something of comfort, a topic, family, whatever, to the table so their attitudes are uplifted and they can see the brighter side of what we're doing. They remember the big picture. Because I know when the trip is over, we're going to need them again.
Solar engineering is not a widespread knowledge. It's something that only a few people have right now. You just have to find a way to bring out their best and bring out the best in the others we're working with.
