“If people have low self-esteem, just pause and give gratitude for what you do have,” shares Marilyn. “Then look for other people to help. You have a contribution to make and everybody has a contribution to make.”

Some people come into life where they are put in a situation where people have very low expectations of them. And most people get low self-esteem from them, meaning that they don't think they're worthwhile well, too. And that certainly happened to me because being a girl child in a very traditional Chinese family where I had three younger brothers and an older sister, I'm really in a very bad positioning for any kind of self-esteem.

If people who have low self-esteem, just pause and give gratitude for what you do have. And then look for other people to help. You have a contribution to make and everybody has a contribution to make. When you feel empowered, you are going to feel better and you are going to gain self-esteem from being empowered because you are making a positive difference.

I had to learn from very young how to observe, to know how to find the places of commonality, to find the places where I can offer more benefit than the negatives that I may be perceived as.
