Great leaders develop people, not talent.
In this behind-the-scenes interview from Leadercast 2020—Positive Disruption, Richard Montañez, vice president of multicultural sales and marketing at PepsiCo North America, describes the mark of a great leader as the ability to mentor others.

So I spent an awful lot of time on mentoring. I'm not a coach. There's a difference between coaching and mentoring. And we'll save that for another day, but there's a big difference. I believe in mentoring. And I believe in mentoring, not so much in sales skills, but this way, listen to me, is the people that I mentor, I don't even talk about sales. I believe that if I can get them to become better people, they automatically become better leaders.
So I concentrate on the total being not necessarily on the dos and don'ts of selling. If this person is going to develop into a great leader, that'll naturally come. I can teach anybody to sell, but to be a great salesperson, you've got to be a great person. So I concentrate on the total being of the person in a mentoring style.
