What makes a leader heroic?
In 2011, Derreck Kayongo, founder of the Global Soap Project, was one of 10 people to win the CNN Heroes award. Here, Derreck describes what makes a leader heroic.

Don't shy away from being a hero. And most people shy away from being a hero because it is taxing. It requires your dedication. It requires time, patience, failure. And so when you go through all of those things. Yes, then we can call you a hero, because, boy. Good God, do we need some heroes around here. People who care about others, and create environments in which our children can be safe and the environment can be safe from all of our shenanigans.
I enjoy being a hero because I can inspire people to become their own heroes. Stop reading books about other people's heroism. Become your own hero! So that's what I love about it. I love being a hero.
