The authenticity principle is all about living with a commitment to being who we are as much as possible. And in fact, I define authenticity as the consistent practice of choosing to know who we are, to embrace who we are, and to be who we are as much as possible so that we feel better connected to the self, we feel better about who we are. We're happier. We bring this spirit into our interactions with others. And in doing so, we invite others to do the same back with us. And in this regard, authenticity, it's contagious. It's like a magnet. When I reveal to you openly not just what makes me so awesome, which I am, but more importantly, what my fears are, and my insecurities are and what my vulnerabilities are. And that on any given day, like even as early as, oh, I'd say, three hours ago, I felt like a bag of a mess. When I tell you the truth of how I really truly feel, you'll do the same back with me. And because of that, we'll create more meaningful relationships.

And then of course, when we lead with the spirit, when we work with the spirit, we create team environments where people feel included, they feel empowered, and they feel more innovative. And in fact, for the leaders in this room and who are watching today, please know that the research says that when we lead with an authentic spirit, our team members are more likely to say that they enjoy working with us, that they trust us, that they feel more engaged, they feel more satisfied, they report higher feelings of workplace well-being and meaning, they feel more included, they feel more productive. And of course, all of this impacts retention. We stay when we are working with leaders who are authentic.
