For Nkrumah Pierre, director of business development and Friends of the Firm program at EisnerAmper, networking is a way of life. In this video, he discusses why showing people who you are in your everyday life is an easy and honest way to make connections. When they know how you spend your time, they can see ways that they are similar to you.

“Your authentic self is what you want to show to the people who are following you on social media or the folks who connect with you,” says Nkrumah. Tune into the video to learn more!

With regard to staying relevant, I think the biggest piece is having that human element, being authentic. So when I think of social media, like my presence or my image on social media, I think of the meetings I'm going on, the golf outings I'm going on, the entertaining of clients. Yes, that's one piece.

Two, I'm very passionate about my family. So my family's also there, my wife. Then three, athletics. Working out, staying in shape.

Different things resonate with different people in my network. So it's not like one size fits all. So when I think of being authentic or remaining relevant, I have different elements of my life that I show, that I share to show my authentic self, where people who can connect with that.

So when you connect with someone and you learn more about their background, their family life, their extracurricular activities, what they like to do from a business standpoint, you connect with them one on one, you actually start to like that person. They pique your interest. Your authentic self is what you want to show to the people who are following you on social media or the folks who connect with you.

From a business standpoint, I'm a big proponent of building relationships first, then the business will come, as opposed to asking for the business then building a relationship. It doesn't work that way. So when you can be authentic and connect with people on a personal level, the business will definitely come next.

So what are you doing to remain relevant? You don't want to be a one hit wonder.
