When most people hear the word “leader” they instantly picture a manager or a CEO. What they don’t realize is that just because you’re a manager or hold a high position in a company or on a team doesn’t necessarily make you a leader. Leading and managing are two very different things if they aren’t done correctly. At Leadercast, it is our mission to build Leaders Worth Following, this includes providing management principles that will help people in management roles behave more as leaders than just managers. As a manager, you’re responsible for making decisions on behalf of other people. When making these decisions, it is important for you to remember that you’re not the only one who will feel the effects of whatever you decide. A good leader consistently makes the decision to do the wise thing. The culture within a company is crucial if you want it to be successful. A suffocating culture can cripple the growth of your company. With the right culture, you create an environment that allows your team to achieve their goals. As a manager, it is up to you to create and promote a healthy culture inside your organization. Your team will adapt your behaviors, so if you aren’t walking the walk, then neither will they. You and every member of your team should be able to answer two questions: “What are we doing?” and “Why are we doing it?” By bringing clarity and focus to your mission, you make it much easier for your team to understand how they are contributing to make your goals a reality. It has been proven that teams who feel that they are making a difference and contributing to something they believe work harder and are more motivated.
