Decision Making

Making decisions on behalf of other people, especially those under your leadership, can be one of the most intimidating tasks you face as a leader. Unfortunately, we all know you can’t always please everyone. No matter what you do, someone can be disappointed with the decision that was made.

As leaders, how can we be the best decision-makers for our followers? First, we must look beyond ourselves: You have to do what’s best for the team, not what’s best for you. Second, you need to be prepared to make the tough calls. Your decision could be abandoning a goal or project your team has spent countless hours working on, but you have to cut your losses and walk away. Lastly, trust your gut. If your intuition is telling you that something isn’t right, listen to it.
